Caroline Nicolay

Trained in archaeology and its interpretation to the public, Caroline Nicolay worked in various open-air museums in France, Germany and England before creating her own living history and experiential archaeology company. Focusing on the research, understanding and portrayal of Iron Age life and crafts (around 900BC to 50BC), she specialises in Iron Age paints, especially wall paintings, and by extension explores the building materials and techniques used in the houses of the period – a mere 2,500 years ago. Now training in conservation and maintenance of traditional earth buildings, Caroline explores the links to be created between the information revealed by archaeology and the practical knowledge of artisans working in the modern natural and sustainable building industry.
