Laurence Edwards

Laurence Edwards’ practice has long been preoccupied by the entwining of man, nature and time. He is fascinated by human anatomy and the metamorphosis of form and matter that governs the Italian lost-wax process. Based in his native Suffolk, Edwards studied sculpture at Canterbury College of Art and bronze casting at the Royal College of Art. He travelled India on an Intach Travelling Scholarship in the 1980’s, studying traditional casting techniques throughout the continent, an experience that gave him the necessary tools to establish his own unique and idiosyncratic atelier and foundry, which over the last thirty years has grown to a scale that enables him to employ 9 full time assistants and casting specialists, who are crucial in helping him create exhibitions and commissions around the world, as well as sculptures like the ‘Yoxman’ a 26ft high bronze primordial figure that overlooks the A12 in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
