Time wants you dead. Not just you, but everyone you have ever met. An obsession with living forever has been woven through our history from the holy grail to the philosopher’s stone. Advances in modern medicine have spiked a resurgence of interest in never dying. But can we really live forever? Professor of Vaccine Immunology, John Tregoning, and historian Dr Alanna Skuse discuss issues such as how causes of death have changed over time, how doctors from the renaissance to the modern day have tried to stave off disease and whether the ‘wellness’ movement really offers any solutions and ultimately the most important question – even if we could live forever, should we?
