63. HMS Urge: The Submarine that Vanished
Forum

HMS Urge was a Royal Navy submarine operating in the Mediterranean in World War 2. Following orders to evacuate to Alexandria, Egypt, HMS Urge slipped out of Malta’s Grand Harbour on 27 April 1942… and was never seen again. With 44 souls on board, her disappearance became one of the Royal Navy’s most enduring wartime mysteries. Professor Timmy Gambin, Malta’s foremost maritime archaeologist, unravels the story of HMS Urge; from its daring operations in the Mediterranean to the unanswered questions surrounding its final voyage. Through years of meticulous research, he reveals how the wreck was finally located and what it tells us about the submarine’s fate. A powerful story of loss, discovery and long-awaited answers beneath the waves.
