69. Old Songs: Britain’s Traditional Ballads and their histories
Henge

As twilight descends on the festival, step into a world where ancient ballads come alive. Traditional ballads, so rich in story, have accompanied us for centuries. They reveal motifs and melodies that moved generations at hearth and harvest, at the spinning wheel and street corners alike: story-songs as full of drama, old magic and intrigue as they are insights into the past. Join Amy Jeffs, Natalie Brice and Gwen Burns as they sing and speak of golden-masted ships captained by the Devil, fiddles that cry “Murder!”, men kidnapped by the Fairy Queen and the nefarious uses of knot magic.
