Wild Cannwood + Intro from Director Leander Ward
Chalke Cinema
Wild Cannwood is a short film by acclaimed wildlife film-maker Leander Ward about the quiet transformation of a Somerset farm, where nature is given space to return. Set at Ben Goldsmith’s rewilding project, Cannwood, the film follows a landscape in transition, where former farmland is giving way to wetlands, scrub and thriving wildlife.
Filmed over the course of a year, it captures Ben’s decision, after the loss of his daughter Iris, to make the whole place as wild as both he and she loved it – pulling out fences and drains, restoring water, bringing back native grazing animals and welcoming keystone species like beavers.
Through intimate observations of returning birds, amphibians and shifting habitats, Wild Cannwood weaves together ecological restoration and personal renewal, revealing how rewilding can rebuild both an ecosystem and a sense of meaning. A story of love, landscape and hope, it reflects on the power of letting nature lead.
