The Iron Age Forge
Discover the sights, sounds, and significance of ancient metalworking with Thomas Timbrell of Heritage Blades, who will be working on a pit forge using tools and techniques used in Britain over 2,000 years ago. Thomas will be exploring the role of the blacksmith within Iron Age communities, as a maker and a problem solver, and investigating how the introduction and spread of iron reshaped trade, warfare, agriculture, and daily life in prehistoric Britain.
Heritage Blades will be at the festival Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
