Ewan Fernie is Chair, Professor and Fellow at the Shakespeare Institute, Stratford-upon-Avon. His books include: Shame in Shakespeare, The Demonic,Shakespeare for Freedom, and ‘Macbeth, Macbeth’ (a cowritten novel). For many years, he co-edited the groundbreaking ‘Shakespeare Now!’ series. He was academic anchor for the BBC’s series, Shakespeare: Rise of a Genius, and recently appeared on Shakespeare, My Family and Me, with Dame Judi Dench. He is currently completing a book called Anti-Hero: Thomas Carlyle while beginning work on another titled Shakescene: The Double Life of William Shakespeare. He has a third in the pipeline, about Birmingham in the ninetheenth century, provisionally entitled Shakespearean City.
