Lyndal Roper

Lyndal Roper is Emeritus Regius Chair of History at the University of Oxford. She is the first woman to hold the Regius Chair in History, and the first Australian. She is a fellow of the British Academy, a fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, and a fellow of the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften. One of the most respected historians at work in Britain today, her previous books include Martin Luther: Renegade and Prophet and Witch Craze: Terror and Fantasy in Baroque Germany. In 2025, she was awarded the Cundill History Prize for Summer of Fire and Blood.
