Mstyslav Chernov

Mstyslav Chernov is a BAFTA, Oscar, and Pulitzer Prize-winning filmmaker, war correspondent, and novelist. His film 20 Days in Mariupol won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary[4] and Best Documentary Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards in 2024. His directorial work has been honoured by the Directors Guild of America (DGA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) marking a rare crossover of in directing, writing, and visual storytelling. Drawing on over a decade of experience as a journalist for the Associated Press, Chernov’s filmmaking is rooted in his documentation of global crises. His field work includes the Revolution of Dignity, the Russian invasion in Ukraine, European migration crisis, the Syrian civil war, and the Battle of Mosul in Iraq. He has also reported from Libya, Afghanistan, Gaza, and Nagorno-Karabakh.
