GETTING TO THE FESTIVAL

Monday & Tuesday: 16:15 – 23:30

Getting to the festival

The Festival site is on a working farm on the southern edge of Broad Chalke. The nearest towns are Salisbury (9 miles to the east) and Shaftesbury (12 miles to the west) and Blandford (18 miles to the south).

Trains run to Salisbury every 1/2 hour from London (please allow at least 45 minutes from the station to the Festival).

Number 29 bus runs between Salisbury (from Blue Boar Row in Salisbury) and Shaftesbury Monday – Saturday. There is a request stop by the Church in Broad Chalke then follow signs to the festival. The walk to the Festival from the request stop is about a third of a mile.

Parking

All parking is free at the Festival. There will be separate disabled parking closer to the Entrance (please bring your blue badge) and there will be a separate parking area for Friends (Festival Memberships) and Speakers.

Bag searches

Please note that for security reasons and the heightened threat levels in the UK, bag searches will be undertaken upon entry to the Festival. Please don’t bring alcohol or any type of knife on site.

Are dogs allowed at the festival?

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed on site, including in the car park, with the exception of Assistance dogs. Assistance dogs will be allowed with proof of requirement in the form of government issued ID card.

Can I camp and glamp at the festival?

Yes. Camping and Glamping options and all the relevant information is available on the Camping & Glamping page.

Can I get cashback on site?

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to offer cashback on site. If you want to spend cash on site, please visit a nearby cash point before visiting the festival. We accept cash, card and contactless as payment at the festival.

TICKETS

What tickets do I need for the festival?

A day, evening, 3- day or 7- ticket is required for entry. All talks are included. Dining and other experience tickets are payable in addition.

Can I buy tickets on the day?

Yes, you will be able to buy entry tickets on the day. Please come to the Box Office at the site and we will be very happy to help you. Please allow extra time in case of queues.

Do you offers tickets for Carers?

A Carer ticket can be provided at no extra cost if you require assistance throughout the festival. Your Carer should be willing and able to assist you throughout the festival, including during an evacuation or other emergency.

Are mobility scooters available for hire?

Mobility Scooters are available to hire from Event Mobility and need to be prebooked directly with them. Click here to book.

Will I need ID for a Student ticket?

Yes, please bring valid Student ID to ensure entry to the festival with your Student ticket.

Do under 16’s need to be accompanied?

Yes, children under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult, with a valid adult ticket, to enter the festival. Children under 16 enter FREE to the festival, but will need to have a child’s ticket – book here.

Can I buy Workshop and Experience tickets at the festival?

Yes, you can purchase experience tickets at the Living History Info Point during the festival, or online before book here.

How can I contact the Ticket Office during the festival?

The Ticket Office will be open 9.15am – 8pm, during the festival. For customer enquiries please email [email protected] or call and leave a short message on 01722 781133. Please note, festival tickets are non-refundable.

AT THE FESTIVAL

Is there map of the festival site?

Yes, the festival site map is available to download here. Festival site maps will be printed and available to pick up at the festival each day as well.

Is the talk seating allocated?

You can reserve seats in the Guildhall and Moot tents. In order to reserve a seat, you will need to be a member of the Chalke History Club. Click here to find out more and join. If you don’t reserve a seat, you will still be able to see the talk, by sitting in the non-member area.

All other talk tents do not have allocated seating.

Food at the festival

As well as our pre-booked Dining Tent there will be many concession food stands, coffee/tea stands and a bar.

You are very welcome to bring your own picnics and there will be places to sit. Please do not bring alcohol, there is a bar on site.

Is there a bar?

Yes, the Big Top Bar will be at the heart of the site, as usual. We also have two smaller bars, one courtesy of Butcombe Beer and the other Hattingley Wine.

Can I buy books at the festival?

Yes. Waterstones will be at the Festival for the whole week. Friends and Plantagenets are entitled to a 10% discount – you must show proof of your membership.

Wheelchair access

We welcome wheelchair users, but please note the Festival is in a field and subject to the weather, there are not any covered walkways between the tents. There is disabled parking available. We also have disabled toilets, wide aisles to accommodate wheelchairs and plenty of willing volunteers who will be happy to help, please don’t hesitate to ask. Are there hearing loops in the tent?

Yes, available in both of the two main tents (Guildhall and Moot).

 

 

Do I need wellies and sun cream?

The festival is in a field and subject to the weather. There are no covered walkways so please come prepared – it can get muddy although the chalk drains quickly.

The weather for the week is set to be very sunny – while there is cover at the festival please bring appropriate precautions against the hot weather.

 

Assistance and guide dogs

Assistance dogs will be allowed with proof of requirement in the form of government issued ID card.

Green/Environmental issues policy

The festival site is on a working farm and we leave it exactly as we find it. All the rubbish generated by the festival is taken away, sorted and recycled.
