94b. The Archaeologists’ Guide to Chariots
Henge

This year’s festival brings an unforgettable theatrical experience, where master craftsmanship meets storytelling to uncover the vital role of chariots in Iron Age and Romano-British society across southern England. Join archaeologists Melanie Giles and Peter Hommel  alongside Alex Langlands as they share insights from chariot discoveries spanning the Steppes to Pembrokeshire. Drawing on their personal experience working on these sites, they will reveal the archaeology and ancient techniques that guide Chalke’s heritage artisans as they reconstruct a stunning late Iron Age Romano-British chariot before your eyes. Once a striking symbol of status on the chalk downlands, this remarkable vehicle is brought back to life in a captivating fusion of history, craft, and live performance.
