Melanie Giles

Prof. Melanie Giles is an archaeologist from the University of Manchester. She specialises in the Iron Age – a world of chariots, swords and mirrors – and the funerary rites, Celtic art, artefacts and life stories of these past peoples. At the moment, she is working on a new chariot burial from Wales, building on her previous work on the chariot communities from Yorkshire. She is also continuing her research on the phenomenon known as ‘bog bodies’ from north-western Europe: marvellously preserved remains from raised and blanket bogs, fens and mires. Melanie is passionate about championing the power of archaeology to inspire the arts, and works with museums and galleries to bring these creative conversations to life.
