The Greensleeves Project

With its haunting melody, and the romantic myth that it was written by Henry VIII as a love song for Anne Boleyn, Greensleeves has remained popular over the centuries and, today, is probably the best known of all Tudor songs. In the song, a man showers his would-be beloved with gifts, giving us a rich insight into the clothing, fabrics, and embroidery of the time.

The Greensleeves Project brings together an interdisciplinary team of expert historians and craftspeople, who have used traditional methods to recreate the garments described in Greensleeves. Join them on Sunday in our workshop tent to discover the incredible material culture of the Tudor and Elizabethan age, with music, dancing, and fashion.
